Penske Racing Shocks
When the world's best racing teams choose a damper, they choose Penske. Formula 1. IndyCar. Le Mans. NASCAR. IMSA. The results speak for themselves — and the engineering behind those results is extraordinary.
The Pinnacle of Motorsport Damper Technology
Penske Racing Shocks have been at the centre of motorsport's most significant victories for decades. Their dampers have been trusted by championship-winning teams across Formula 1, IndyCar, NASCAR, IMSA, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and virtually every major motorsport discipline on the planet. This is not a brand built on marketing — it is a brand built on winning at the highest level of competition in the world.
The engineering that makes Penske dampers exceptional at Le Mans or in IndyCar is the same engineering that makes them exceptional in any serious motorsport application. Precision manufacturing tolerances, genuine high and low speed damping control, outstanding thermal consistency and full rebuildability and re-valvability. These are not features — they are the foundation of what makes a damper capable of operating at the absolute limit of performance for hours at a time.
Trusted by championship-contending F1 teams demanding the absolute limit of damper precision and consistency.
The damper of choice across the IndyCar field — a series that places extraordinary demands on suspension consistency across ovals and road courses.
Endurance racing demands dampers that perform consistently across 24 hours of sustained high-speed running. Penske delivers.
The most competitive stock car series in the world relies on Penske dampers to extract consistent performance across a gruelling season.
Sports car racing at the highest level of North American competition — Penske is the benchmark damper across multiple classes.
Wherever the fastest cars in the world compete seriously, Penske Racing Shocks are part of the engineering story.
What Makes Penske Engineering Exceptional
Manufacturing Precision
Penske dampers are manufactured to tolerances that produce exceptional consistency between units. In a four-damper application, the damper at each corner behaves precisely as intended — not approximately. That precision is the foundation of everything that follows in the setup process.
True High & Low Speed Control
Genuine independent control of high and low speed compression and rebound damping — separate calibration of how the damper responds to fast surface inputs versus slow body movement inputs. This is real four-way adjustment used purposefully, not marketing adjustment used as a selling point.
Thermal Consistency
A damper that changes behaviour as it heats up is not a racing damper. Penske units maintain consistent damping characteristics across operating temperatures — essential for endurance applications and for any serious setup development process where repeatability is fundamental.
Full Rebuildability & Re-valving
A Penske damper is a long-term engineering investment. Fully rebuildable, fully re-valvable — the specification can be developed as the car evolves, as data accumulates and as setup understanding deepens. The damper grows with the programme rather than becoming obsolete as requirements change.
An Honest Assessment
Penske Racing Shocks are extraordinary. They are also expensive — significantly more than double the cost of a Nitron system — and they come with very limited off-the-shelf specification. Almost every Penske application is bespoke. The valving, the specification, the setup — all of it requires engineering input to realise the hardware's capability.
For the vast majority of fast road and track day customers, Penske is more damper than the application justifies. A correctly specified Nitron R1 or R3 will deliver outstanding performance and represent a far better use of budget for most real-world applications. We will always tell you this honestly — matching the product to what the application actually needs, not to what sounds most impressive.
Penske becomes the right answer for a specific kind of customer: someone running a genuine race programme, collecting data, working with an engineer, developing the car purposefully over time, and with a budget that reflects that level of commitment. For that customer, Penske is not an extravagance — it is the correct tool.
If you are that customer — perhaps running a Caterham race programme, a Porsche motorsport project, or any chassis where every tenth matters — we are the right people to talk to. We understand Penske engineering, we understand when it is and is not the right answer, and we will give you an honest recommendation either way.
Discuss Whether Penske is Right For YouPenske is the right answer when
You are running a dedicated race car with active data acquisition and ongoing setup development.
You have an engineer working with you who will use the adjustability purposefully and interpret the results.
Your budget reflects a serious long-term motorsport programme rather than track day preparation.
You need damper specification that can be developed and re-valved as your car and programme evolves over seasons.
Nitron is almost certainly the right answer when
You use your car on road and track days and want a correctly specified, genuinely capable suspension system.
You want outstanding performance from a sensible budget without the complexity of a bespoke race damper programme.
You are preparing for the Nürburgring, hillclimb or circuit track days where a correctly specified Nitron will be fast and reliable.
