Caterham Nitron NTR R3 40mm
The NTR R3 adds independent control of compression and rebound — a genuine development tool for the driver who will use it with intent. For most Caterhams the R1 is enough; the R3 is for the programme that has outgrown it.
Two Adjusters, Used With Intent
The Nitron NTR R3 separates compression and rebound into two independent adjusters, so each direction of damper movement can be calibrated on its own. Compression and rebound are genuinely different events with different requirements — and the R3 lets you address one without disturbing the other.
That capability is only an advantage in the right hands. Used to refine a setup against chassis behaviour you can identify and measure, it is a precision instrument. Used without a process, the extra adjustment simply gives you more ways to move away from a setting that was already correct. The hardware does not make the difference on its own — the method does.
Who the R3 is For
This is the kit for the dedicated Caterham programme — circuit and hillclimb cars under active development, drivers logging data and adjusting between events with a clear objective, and builds being refined progressively across seasons. If you understand damping theory and you adjust with purpose, the R3 rewards it.
If your Caterham is a fast road car or an occasional track day car, the single-adjustable NTR R1 is almost certainly the better choice — and a better use of budget. We set out exactly where that line sits in Nitron R1 vs R3, and we will tell you honestly which side of it your car falls on.
